Heroes Fanvid for the Petrelli Brothers - "Fix You" by Coldplay
6th-Dec-2006 09:09 pm
Grave Lying
Okay I'm gonna dedicate this one to nakhrewali for inspiring me to make it through all our discussions on Nathan and Peter Petrelli. Sadly not everything could fit into this song, but I did my best to show the relationship between the two siblings, how Nathan tries to combat his younger brothers "delusions of grandeur" while still making his own fatal mistakes, and how much they really do care about one another.

Okay I'm gonna dedicate this one to never_evil
Aww your too sweet *hugs*

I did my best to show the relationship between the two siblings
I absolutely adore you for making a Petrelli vid but now I adore you even more [as if such a thing were possible] for doing it so beautifully and with the most perfect song. And that banner pic? So fitting with the song because Nathan has come to "fix" the situation!

And asgfsdjdkgfh I'll be back for a more in-depth discussion tomorrow night because at the moment I'm being grumbled at to close the lights and go to sleep LOL. pfff like anyone needs that when there's something Heroes to squee over

Aww thank you! *glee* That's what I said, I was talking to you and lightning struck, it was just SO fitting!

And that banner pic? So fitting with the song because Nathan has come to "fix" the situation!

Thanx, I stole it off you ;) No really, I did LOL I realised that bit wasn't on the show when I was doing up the vid, and the screencap I was gonna use didn't work out, so I went and chased down that post in your journal cause THAT was the pic I wanted :$ And LMAO how funny was that that Nathan even SAID that to Peter in the episode!!! He'd come to fix his problems/mistakes (at least I'm sure he said that. Could have been clean up his messes... but same deal). And didn't you just love the "Have you got it out of your system now?" comment? *snickers*

And asgfsdjdkgfh I'll be back for a more in-depth discussion tomorrow night because at the moment I'm being grumbled at to close the lights and go to sleep LOL. pfff like anyone needs that when there's something Heroes to squee over

hehe true! :D And I'm hanging for that cause I've been dying to ramble to you about it :$

hey, glad to be of service. I was kind of disappointed that the scene never showed up although hugs are great for the soul too.

And I'm hanging for that cause I've been dying to ramble to you about it :$
*rubs hands* Shall we begin the fun? Here goes....

ok first off the Peter failing to fly scene in the "try your best, but you don't succeed" awww spot on! And kind of also made me think of Peter as a little boy wanting his parents attention but never succeeding no matter how well he did or tried.

"when you get what you want but not what you need"
That scene you used so embodied the fact that Nathan may get to win his campaign [which he wants to so badly] but what he really needs is Peter's love [and lol in that scene he sure wasn't about to get any]. But actually I don't think there is anything ruthless enough that Nathan may do and Peter won't forgive him for it. Because there is always a good reason behind those cold descisions.

"when you lose something you can't replace"
Hmm I don't remember if I've said this before but I'm sure that as much as Peter does not care about his father Nathan cared too much. Or at least cared about the expectations placed upon him. He may hate them but maybe it's also something that makes him feel secure?

"lights will guide you home"
In a way aren't Peter and Nathan each others constant pillars, beacons of hope?

"and ignite your bones"
LOL literally in Peter's case -.-;

"I will try fix you"
Man I still can't belive how Perfect this song is for the Petrellis!

Also that increased pace and climax scenes were used so well in the chorus bit.

I have watched this vid so many times now and each time I think oh isn't that scene just so spot on, the timing is really great!

heh the unsure "do I hug my brother?" moment. ♥

Peter failing to fly scene in the "try your best, but you don't succeed" awww spot on! And kind of also made me think of Peter as a little boy wanting his parents attention but never succeeding no matter how well he did or tried.

Thanks :D Was a little unsure about using that scene again, but it personified the line *nods* And yeah I have that view of Peter, it's something that goes hand in hand with being a dreamer and wanting to help people, you're constantly striving for the need to be accepted and told that you're doing things right. I think he looks a lot to Nathan for that support, but Nathan rarely gives it.

That scene you used so embodied the fact that Nathan may get to win his campaign [which he wants to so badly] but what he really needs is Peter's love

OMG you totally got what I was trying to convey!!!! *hugz* THANK U!

I don't think there is anything ruthless enough that Nathan may do and Peter won't forgive him for it.

Yep. And I think it's cause Peter has this understanding that he knows what Nathan is like... like as if he's "Acting out" but he knows he doesn't really mean it. (I don't exactly think that, but that's the closest to what I can state it)

I'm sure that as much as Peter does not care about his father Nathan cared too much.

You know what? When I was cutting that scene, I noticied that neither of them seemed to have a devastated kind of reaction to the news. Once I edited it together though it came across more as Nathan seemed too preoccupied with what "could have happened" while Peter, more than anything, just looked shocked at the news - like his father was just this huge presence he never expected to go away.

cared about the expectations placed upon him. He may hate them but maybe it's also something that makes him feel secure?

I dunno. What would you do if your whole life you've had to do what your parents told you to, that you had to live up to the responsibility they placed on your shoulders, that you would be seen as a failure if you could not achieve what was expected of you... and then it was suddenly gone? You'd probably feel a little lost. Certainly Nathan is ambitious, so he wouldn't want to admit to failure. I think it's what makes him try so hard, and he puts himself under a lot of pressure that way. It's probably also a factor to trying to "fix" his family's problems.

Peter and Nathan each others constant pillars, beacons of hope?

Definately each other's rock. The person they know they can most turn to is each other.

"and ignite your bones"
LOL literally in Peter's case -.-;

haha yeah. That was crazy, especially since I had already started working on the vid before the episode. They were just making it easy for me ;)

Also that increased pace and climax scenes were used so well in the chorus bit.

Thank you :D I ♥ that too. The perfect way to describe this vid is it's so angsty and sweet. :( I miss the boys already.

That's a sad truth. Nathan is likely been the father and brother figure in Peter's life so the support that one would normally expect from parents Peter expects from Nathan. Nathan may feel slightly frustuated with that expectation but at least Peter's expectations stem from his love for his brother. On the other hand Nathan's parents' expectations of him stem not so much from love [even if Nathan thinks he was "loved more than Peter] but from their own selfish desires.

OMG you totally got what I was trying to convey!!!! *hugz* THANK U!
It's always fun to interpret a creator's work but the moments when the viewer and creator are on the same wavelength are golden!

And I think it's cause Peter has this understanding that he knows what Nathan is like... like as if he's "Acting out" but he knows he doesn't really mean it.
Him thinking he knows Nathan so well makes sense if we think about hoe Peter is this empath with an instinctual feel for a person's character. LOL "acting out" is one way to put it.

You know what? When I was cutting that scene, I noticied that neither of them seemed to have a devastated kind of reaction to the news.
Hmmm now that I think about it, there was more anguish in Nathan's eyes when he saw Heidi crashing than when he broke the news of his father's death. But I thought it was because he would have had a chance to compose himself before going over to Peter's house. But that's stupid because you shouldn't have to compose yourself in front of a close family memeber. But then again he could have had his "press" face on. After all, he was lying about the cause of death to his brother just as he would be to the press soon after.

Once I edited it together though it came across more as Nathan seemed too preoccupied with what "could have happened" while Peter, more than anything, just looked shocked at the news - like his father was just this huge presence he never expected to go away
Just wondering...what do you mean by "what could have happened"? Do you mean about Nathan's father finding out about his sons back-stabbing him? Because I think that, even if the suicide wasn't caused by this, Nathan would definitely take the suicide to mean that his father DID find out and that he was responsible for his death. To paraphrase from some article, guilt has permeated Nathan's existence for a long time.

I dunno. What would you do if your whole life you've had to do what your parents told you to, that you had to live up to the responsibility they placed on your shoulders, that you would be seen as a failure if you could not achieve what was expected of you... and then it was suddenly gone? You'd probably feel a little lost.
There may even have been times where he wished it would all go away. And once it had he would feel a bit dis-oriented for sure.

Certainly Nathan is ambitious, so he wouldn't want to admit to failure. I think it's what makes him try so hard, and he puts himself under a lot of pressure that way. It's probably also a factor to trying to "fix" his family's problems.
Yep, it all goes back to Nathan wanting to be in control and manage everything because he thinks its all his responsibility.

I just love how I can come to admire Nathan more and more every time i have a conversation about him with people.

there was more anguish in Nathan's eyes when he saw Heidi crashing than when he broke the news of his father's death.

Uh huh *nods* I noticed that. He looked crushed when he found out the news about Heidi, but his dad didn't seem to be as important. And I guess with the negative kind of relationship he held with his sons, there's a good reason for that.

But then again he could have had his "press" face on. After all, he was lying about the cause of death to his brother just as he would be to the press soon after.

Oh, that's true. Maybe he was more preoccupied with having to lie to his brother to protect him (as I'm sure has happened many times). That's such a bad thing to have to lie to the closest member in your family about how their father died.

Just wondering...what do you mean by "what could have happened"? Do you mean about Nathan's father finding out about his sons back-stabbing him?

Yup, exactly what I meant ;) But you added to that point as well. Obviously he had a lot of things going on in his head in that moment.

even if the suicide wasn't caused by this, Nathan would definitely take the suicide to mean that his father DID find out and that he was responsible for his death.

Oh man! Good point. How damn guilty would you feel about that? So much self-blame :( Poor Nathan.

Loved it, loved it, loved it xD The previous to last scenes: *SQUEE*!!!

It's a beautiful video with a very fitting song. You did an excellent job finding relevant Heroes moments and finding so many of the Petrelli brothers! Without it, I wouldn't even remember the various scenes of them.

Anyway, you captured their emotions and actions amazingly well in the vid, it was a joy to watch. I just hope it doesn't make me want to make a vid as well as your enthusiasm for the show already got me to watch Heroes better and even iconize it! Okay, the watching part might also have a bit to do with the amazing work of the show writers LOL

Oh and on a side note: You were absolutely right with the song pick, because Nathan did say "fix". I remember so vividly because it's yet another moment that reminded me of Lost's Jack (he and Nathan are imho very much alike).

7th-Dec-2006 12:06 am (UTC)
*grin* That makes me very happy to know.

You know I think that song would have been a more OBVIOUS choice after the last episode, but it was entirely awesome that it applied before it even screened and I was already at least 1/3rd of the way through it whilst waiting for that ep. It's amazing to see how emotive Milo and Adrian can be in their facial expressions and it just worked REALLY well with the music. And the transition effects just made it softer or more "in the moment" which is what I loved about doing that one.

I have WAY too much enthusiasm for this show, I know. It's really strange. But I'm compelled to do it all :D And I'm glad I got you hooked - or at at least steered in the right direction. Those writers are awesome *nods* (and so are your icons *goes to look*)

You were absolutely right with the song pick, because Nathan did say "fix".

*happy dance* K so I DID remember right! Just another "Julie picks something up from Heroes b4 it screens" again. Oh, hey, does this mean I'm like Isaac now (ie. creatively picking up things before they happen)
7th-Dec-2006 04:12 am (UTC)
yay! Such a good vid, excellent choices of scenes! Got to love those brothers, they are so good together!
7th-Dec-2006 04:52 am (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, and afterwards I kept going "Oh I didn't put in that, or that, or that" There's just too much Petrelli love to fit into one little video *nods* They ARE awesome together.
7th-Dec-2006 04:36 am (UTC)
This was great. The Coldplay song (which I love BTW) worked well with the caps, and you nailed many of best moments. The Petrelli brothers had me hooked from day 1 - and it keeps getting more and more complex. Heh, even Nathan calls it "dysfunctional" in the last ep. I'll be watching out for more of your stuff, esp. with those hints of bigger, badder and better twists to come. Thanks for sharing!
7th-Dec-2006 04:57 am (UTC)
Thank you :D I seem to be making rather good calls with the songs lately, someone always loves them as much as me! hehe. The brothers have had me hooked from day 1 also, and I'm glad that everyone can squeal over my favourite moments with me.

I really appreciate your comment. *hugz* And I'm sure I won't be stopping anytime soon with the vids. Always every new ep provides new inspiration, and definately there is going to be some more great moments on this awesome show.
7th-Dec-2006 09:21 am (UTC)
Lovely vid! I love the relationship between the brothers. There are so many great moments between them.
